Local Beach: Barney Point

I think I'm quite fortunate living in Gladstone, Central Queensland. While the town is growing like crazy, it's still a great place for families.
We have a beach in Gladstone called Barney Point. It's not much of a beach really - yucky kind of muddy sand and not particularly pleasant to swim in. But, if you want to catch an ocean breeze on your face, it's only about ten minutes drive from my home. The bush is just five minutes in the other direction, so we have the best of both worlds in this town. The beautiful beaches at Boyne Island and Tannum Sands that have real sand, are about 20 minutes drive from my home. Lucky aren't I?
The council has updated the area quite nicely.
There are barbecues and picnic tables, swings and playgrounds and a nice park for the family.
Barney Point has become quite a popular place to live with new apartments springing up there over the years.
Friend Park at Barney Point is a nice spot to relax and have a picnic, or just let the kids play around.
As with many places in Australia, particularly Queensland, swimmers have to beware of the dangers of stingers.
